In 2011, Carolyn Witt Jones and the late Jo Robertson envisioned a collective effort of generosity to fund education for girls in Kenya. This resulted in the establishment of the Kenya Girls Forward Charitable Fund at Blue Grass Community Foundation. The fund has thus far supported more than 118 students who would otherwise not have access to secondary school.
HOW YOU CAN HELP $500 can provide a full year of high school for a deserving girl in Kenya. Any donation amount is welcome and will go toward a collective effort to send as many bright young women to school as possible. Thanks to the generosity of new and continuing donors, we were able to grant $47,660 to Rural Women Peace Link in 2023. We hope to keep the momentum going for 2024!
LIFE IN KENYA Most Kenyans live in poverty, lacking healthcare and educational materials. Young girls are often abused, forced into marriages, and genital mutilation remains legal. Many mothers care for as many as ten children on as little as a dollar a day.
HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION IN KENYA IS NOT FREE. The cost of room and board, uniforms, and school supplies is unaffordable for these bright girls who yearn for a better life. The girls know that to succeed and break their cycle of poverty, they must go to school.
